We offer individual psychotherapy for a range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress and trauma. We also support clients who do not have to have a specific mental health problem, but who could benefit from support. In addition, we offer coaching services and mental wellbeing workshops.

We will help you to understand how you think and feel about yourself, others, the world and the future. Helping you to change how you think (Cognitive) and what you do (Behaviour), where necessary.

Military Therapy at Optimism

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

We understand that some clients work best with structured therapy plans, CPT is a manualised, evidence based therapy that we can use to help you recover from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. We usually complete therapy within 12 one hour sessions.

Narrative Exposure Therapy at Optimism

Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

We will support you to create a timeline of your life known as a 'life line' and the opportunity to speak through your experiences both positive and negative in detail. NET helps you to make sense of your experiences and move forward.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR can help people who have problems as a result of traumatic experiences. Trauma experiences can become stuck in the brain and they are not fully processed which means they continue to cause people problems.  We will help you with processing and allow these memories to be properly filed away.

Mindfulness at Optimism

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

We will help you to move forward through difficult emotions and situations by helping you to recognise feelings without judgement and teaching you coping skills that help you to build a new and compassionate relationship with difficult experiences.

Interpersonal Therapy at Optimism

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

IPT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on relieving symptoms by improving interpersonal functioning.A central idea in IPT is that psychological symptoms can be understood as a response to current difficulties in everyday relationships with other people.

We will help you to develop self-compassion and compassion for others, aiming to reduce shame, guilt and distress, as well as increasing happiness, wellbeing and helping you to flourish.
